conclusion.

I am surprised about how sucsessfull i found this project, when i was given the brief i pictured myself screaming at my laptop in frustration and then crying in the corner. and my prediction seemed more likely to happen when i first listened to the music and  realized that i got a repetitive slow and ‘dreary’ song. I kept listening to it and i had trouble catching the essence of my allocated music in three words

however i when i kept listening to it, i could only think of broad words like progress, thought and journey, which where not helping me with my narrative. the only powerful images i had where rotating cogs and the ticking of a clock. which lead me into thinking about deterioration (a form of time passing) of cogs and machines. which could have been very complicated, and as the brief was about abstraction. i tried to think of other, metaphorical machines, like the heart, brain, planet. and plants. and in the end i chose to focus on the brain as a deterioration of the brain could be interpreted as either: memory loss, dementia or similar degenerative diseases. schizophrenia or other mental disorders. or maybe even the effect of drugs.

my storyboard ideas was quite successful and so where the vectors i had designed, i had various things to improve on, to try to improve my intended meaning. which i solved by re positioning my images, and eventually changing my tunnel vectors to promote certain pieces of imagery.

when it came to creating the animation i had thought about using adobe after effects, but in my initial experimental attempts had not been very successful. and i needed tuition (which i had later received once i had already made good progress) so i decided to create individual shots of my animation using photoshop as i am confident with the software and i would be able to move different images at once without getting myself confused. i created a routine on how i rearranged or resized vectors so i would not get lost or miss sections out.

to make sure i did not make mistakes i uploaded my images to windows movie maker, which was a much easier to use than after effects and i could create a kind of preview to check that all my images fitted together. once i had made them all, i uploaded them to after effects and sequenced all the layers and edited the volume on my sample piece. however i did have a bit of difficulty aligning a certain part of the music to a certain scene.

overall, i am very happy with my work, i think that i answered the brief well, and i think that i worked around  my strengths. and i am pleasantly surprised that this module was not as frustrating as i thought it was going to be, i really enjoyed it!

this is my final animation. i am happy with the small improvements i have made. i think that the ending with the final raindrop left suspended is a more powerful ending than a black background. and that the painful few hours it took to re-edit my tunnel scenes was worth the effort.

i had made this ages ago in windows movie maker. but forgot to upload it, I made this after i realized that i may be able to use the tunnel sequence in my work. i just made a very basic couple of scenes just to see if it would fit with the part of music i was planning to use it on, or if it would fit in with the other scenes in my sequence. i decided that if i where to put this into my sequence the shapes or colors would have to be changed.

as my feedback suggested that my ideas and images where not perceived as well as i would have liked, i decided to incorporate the ” error#” image that i have used for the end raindrops. to try to make them not so randomly placed at the end of the sequence.

this is the work we made in the workshops at the beginning of the project, as you can see i was not very successful at onion skinning, which is a technique i need to practice and improve on for the future.

this is just a preview of the re edited images i have made to improve my animation i am now going to add it to my overall piece, to create a animation i am 100% satisfied with.

i have not uploaded anything in a while because i have been concentrating on other projects, but here is my attempt at trying to re edit my work to make the quality better. Here is the before and after

this is what my possible final piece, i might adjust the timeings or edit the music slightly. I may also redo some images as i think they could do with being re edited.

drop in session.

I went to a drop in session this week to find out where i was going wrong with my audio, it turns out i was not selecting the correct output settings, (mpeg 4,) and selecting the audio output tick box) plus i was also taught a easier way on making my images into a movie, instead on moving each image along the timeline seperately. i will remember this advice for the future.as i prefer adjusting the speed on my images myself, for this particular piece.

this is a sample of the tunnel sequence that i may add to my animation, i am happy with this as i think it suits the music and even though the scenes could be improved by making it smoother i think it suits the disjointedness of this piece, if i have time before the deadline and if it is under my thirty second limit i will try to add more transitional shots.
